Nexus 4 launches in India @ Rs 25,999

LG and Google announced that Nexus 4, the official Android phone, would be available in India in the coming days at an MRP of Rs 25,999. Yesterday, the device became available for pre-order on Flipkart, an e-commerce site, starting at a price of Rs 25,990.

Sources said that the pre-order was part of an exclusive deal that Flipkart had struck with LG.

The Nexus 4 boasts a 4.7-inch screen with 768x1280 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB RAM and runs Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front camera and a 2,100mAh battery. It's worthwhile to point out that the Nexus 4 doesn't feature a microSD slot or expandable storage of any other kind.

Google Nexus devices are loved by purists who prefer the 'stock' Android experience (free of any third-party skins or apps) and availability of software updates as and when they are released by Google. Google collaborates with a manufacturer to produce these devices, like LG with the Nexus 4 and Asus for its Nexus 7 tablet. Interestingly, the launch comes hours after Google unveiled a Samsung Galaxy S4 variant running 'stock' Android at its Google I/O conference, though officially that isn't a 'Nexus' device.

LG Launches Mobile Phone App Store

LG has announced the launch of mobile phone app store to cater all the smartphone users as well as feature phones.

The latest LG Application Store bears over 3,000 applications meant for all mobile phones.

According to sources, the site contains games such as The SIMS 3 and Asphalt 4 and other applications for all the featured phones and smartphones.

Apart from that, LG is also planning to bring Android applications to the platform in the coming days.

A company official said LG can grab a good percentage of the mobile phone market as many companies are focusing on the development of applications for smartphones ignoring the feature phones.

Most of the applications found at the LG Application Store are designed for use on feature phones, the official added.

LG has been buoyed by a recent report published by research firm that predicts 90% of feature phone owners in the US and UK are willing to download games, social networking applications, instant messaging and mapping on their sets.

Nokia To Launch Rs. 500 Handset Under Life Tools Program

As you all know that Nokia has launched its Nokia Life Tools program last year to tap the potential in India's rural market. The program aims towards connecting farmers with each other and also with their businesses in a better way. As a next step, Nokia will now be offering cheap handsets under its Life Tools program. These handsets will cost around 1,000 INR and farmers can easily afford them. Nokia is also planning to launch a 500 INR handset.

Nokia sells handsets in Indian rural markets through micro finance and such cheap handsets will help Nokia in penetrating the market in a better way. If you see today's mobile handset market in India, Nokia is one of the few branded companies that offers handset so cheap.

Nokia, though a big and strong player, is facing competition from its counterparts like Samsung and LG on one end and then there are Chinese cheap handsets and other India based OEMs like Micromax, Karbon who are slowly coming into the market. Their handsets offer a lot of features at a very low price.

With Life Tools, Nokia has already started tapping the rural treausre that India has and now the cheap handsets might just to the trick for Nokia. One thing is for sure, Nokia does know that India's rural market has potential as well as huge money and like Nokia always says, they love ompetition but they always aim for the biggers piece of the pie.
