Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 launched in India today
The successor of Samsung Galaxy Grand; Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 was launched today in India with additional and better features.
The device will be priced between Rs 22,990 to Rs 24, 990 and will be available to the public from the first week of January 2014.
The Grand 2 has a tough task ahead of it. It will have to follow the success of the Galaxy Grand, one of the bestselling smartphones this year. To do so, Samsung has made some significant improvements in the specs. In terms of design, the Grand takes off from the recently launched Note 3, which had a faux leather back. This makes an appearance on the Grand 2 and lends it a better look than any plain glossy piece of plastic could.
The Galaxy Grand 2 features a 16:9 720p display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It comes with support for Samsung's Multi Window feature that allows multitasking on the device’s large screen. The internals have also been beefed up as the Galaxy Grand 2 is powered by a Qualcomm chipset (most likely the Snapdragon 400) with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and there's a healthy 1.5GB of RAM on board, that should ideally deliver a smooth and lag free experience. It runs on Android 4.3, and there is no word on whether it will get Android KitKat.
Key features of Grand 2 smartphone include an 8 megapixel camera and a bigger 5.25 inch 1280x720 TFT screen. The screen has a 16:9 HD ratio or a wide angle ratio, which is well-suited for movies, playing games, etc. It is a dual-SIM phone. The processor is clocked at 1.2 GHz and the smartphone has 1.5 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory. It has a microSD slot with 64 GB as the limit. The front camera is 1.9MP and is capable of shooting and recording in HD mode. The smartphones supports WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 version, GPS + Glonass and USB 2.0. The smartphone runs Android 4.3 version. The batter is 2,600mAh and Samsung is promising 10 hours of playback and 17 hours of calls on the Galaxy Grand 2.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes in three color versions: black, white and pink.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini unveiled; may be priced at $350
Samsung Electronics Co. officially unveiled its 4-inch Galaxy S III mini in Germany on Thursday, as per news reports.
The phone features 1GHz dual-core processor, 5MP rear camera and 800x480p display.
Reportedly, Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is expected to hit the market during Christmas and it is expected to be priced between USD 350 to USD 430.
Samsung's original Galaxy S III, unveiled in late May, has a 4.8-inch screen. Strong sales of the flagship phone helped Samsung post record USD 7.3 billion operating profit in the July-September quarter.
Despite a bruising series of patent disputes and the reputational risk of the US court defeat in August, Samsung's brand value has surged this year as it shipped more handsets and smartphones than any of its rivals.
The phone is a smaller, midrange version of its best-selling Galaxy S3 phone, and sports a 4 inch screen.
Samsung has a problem on its hands. There are too many sizes, too many models, and most of them are too big. Mostly, consumers have loved Samsung’s offerings. The success of Galaxy S3(GS3) and Galaxy Note are proof that for many bigger is indeed better.
But apparently that not true for all. There are those who love the GS3 but find its 4.85 inch screen too big for their hands. Samsung says they have been clamouring for a smaller phone. So Samsung decided to make one. Enter the Galaxy S3 Mini.
As you would expect the smaller phone looks just like its bigger brother, but it is chubbier. While the GS3 is 8.6mm thick, the GS3 Mini is 9.85 mm thick. Yet, given the smaller form factor, it would fit quite snugly in your pocket, and your hand. The good news is that the Mini is lighter, just 111.5gms.
The Mini sports a 4 inch screen, a super AMOLED 800×480 screen, 1 Ghz dual core processor, and 1GB of RAM. Not top of the line, but competent enough. The GS3 Mini runs Jelly Bean 4.1.1 out of the box, and has the same buttery smoothness that you would expect from a Jelly Bean device. While the GS3 does not lag or stutter, apps that require more power might just tax its modest guts.
The 800×480 super AMOLED screen might not be the best in the market, but it is not unhandsome. Most things would look perfectly good on this screen. Expect browsing, photos and videos to be quite decent. The GS3 Mini has a 5-megapixel camera as opposed to the 8 MP shooter that the bigger sibling is equipped with. However, if you are an average user 5MP should be quite sufficient for your needs.
One of the main selling points of Galaxy S3 has been its relatively low price. The 64GB GS3 costs $300 dollars with a two year contract. The iPhone 5 with 64GB costs $400. The base model of the GS3 comes in at $100 with a contract, while iPhone 5 comes for a $200 for the base model.
That makes it $100 dollars cheaper. While Samsung has not announced price and availability yet, the smaller GS3 is sure to be cheaper than the flagship device, which means Samsung might be able to woo customers who would like a premium phone without breaking their budget. In the end that is what the GS3 is; a phone for the average user who wants a decent smartphone which is easy to use and within their budget.
Interestingly, Samsung chose the same size as that of the iPhone 5, even though it does not simply decrease the size lengthwise. Rumours of the 4-inch iPhone has been swirling for quite some time, so who knows, Samsung might just have been ‘inspired’ by its rival?

Samsung Galaxy S III Launched – 4.8″ 720p Super AMOLED Display, 8MP Camera – Specs & Features
Samsung Electronics Co launches its latest Galaxy S smartphone in Europe on Tuesday, with the third generation model expected to be even more successful than its predecessor, which helped the South Korean company topple Apple Inc as the world's top smartphone maker.
The S3, which tracks the user's eye movements to keep the screen from dimming or turning off while in use, hits stores in 28 European and Middle East countries, including Germany and Britain, as Samsung aims to widen the gap with Apple months ahead of its rival's new iPhone, expected in the third quarter.
The Galaxy S3, running on Google's Android operating system, boasts a 4.8-inch screen, bigger than the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 4S and the 4.7-inch screen on HTC's One X model.
Critics have praised the Samsung Galaxy S3 as the best phone on the market, with some calling the new smartphone 'light years ahead' of rival Apple's iPhone. The latest Galaxy S smartphone was launched in Europe amidst much hype and is expected to hit Indian stores on May 31. Here's a look at what the tech reviewers are saying about the phone which can topple Apple's dominance in the smartphone market.
With the latest version of Android, a whopping 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen and a whole suite of Apple-beating features, is the new Samsung Galaxy SIII the greatest phone ever?
Samsung has made a big deal about this new phone, not only choosing to launch it at a big and glitzy standalone event in London but also claiming nearly 10 million pre-orders before it's even launched.
The price is pretty palatable for a top-end phone – the likes of Three are already offering it for just £34 a month with oodles of minutes and data, which is already much, much cheaper than any iPhone would ever launch for.
But let's get down to the main question – is this the phone you should be spending your hard-earned cash on before it's even launched?
Design
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is, according to Samsung anyway, 'inspired by nature – it sees, listens, responds, and allows you to share the greatest moments'.
While this is all a little hyperbolic, the nature theme is certainly present when you handle the phone for the first time.
Brushed polycarbonate – you've got a choice of 'Marble White' and 'Pebble Blue' – adorns the large device, which runs in with dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm, despite still having to pack in a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen.
We'll lay it out right now: the plastic feeling of the Galaxy S3 won't appeal to all. It feels very lightweight (despite tipping the scales at 133g) in the hand, and some people will read this as feeling a little cheap.
However, it's exactly the same sensation as we found on the Galaxy S2, and given the silly numbers of sales that had, we think there's more than a market for a phone that you'll barely notice in your pocket most of the time.
But we'll be very clear on this - the Galaxy S3 is not a cheap-feeling phone. It's got a really solid Gorilla Glass front, a well-packaged interior and a more robust battery cover. It's polycarbonate rather than bog-standard plastic, although we're not sure some people will like the more rounded nature of the design (although it's purely subjective).
However, despite being made of similar material, there's no doubt that the One X feels more premium in the hand thanks to being a touch more weighty… there's something about something so large being so light that some will find disconcerting.
Amendment: the HTC One X is actually 3g lighter than the S3, but despite carrying both around at once, the S3 still felt lighter, which shows the way texture can affect the way a phone feels in the pocket.
There's no doubt in our minds that the Pebble Blue offering is the much more attractive option, as the Marble White looks similar to a low-end Galaxy Mini or similar – the brushed effect is really necessary.
Compared to rest of the Galaxy line, the S3 has more in common with the original Galaxy S than the S2, with curved edges the theme in the design language. The home button has also been elongated, although the same menu and back buttons remain from the prequel.
Overall, the effect is much more like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus than anything else – rounded edges, HD screen but with a more minimal bezel to really accentuate the larger screen in the hand.
The button design around the phone has been well thought out in our opinion - for a phone this big it's very difficult to make all the keys accessible, so putting the lock button on the right-hand side rather than the top makes a large degree of sense.
The addition of the lozenge-shaped home button, and its softkey 'Back' and 'Menu' buttons are great additions in our eyes, as it means contextual menus can be found easily without needing to mess around looking for the on-screen icon.
The volume up and down button is parallel to the lock key on the left-hand side of the phone, and also within easy reach when holding the Galaxy S3 in the hand.
The microUSB slot is placed at the bottom of the phone - easy to find with a charger but it will be interesting to see how it's used when placed in docks and car cradles.
The battery cover is also made of the same polycarbonate material as the rest of the body. Yes, you read that right - the battery cover is removable!
This means that not only can switch the battery in and out - a key consideration for many people - there's also a cheeky surprise in the shape of a microSD slot next to the microSIM port. Expandable memory? This just gets better and better.
This means that theoretically you'll be able to have a 128GB-capacity Samsung Galaxy S3 if you combine the top spec of internal memory (64GB) with the largest microSD card around at the moment (64GB)... making it a mouth-watering prospect for those that love a spot of media.
Sure, there are stats that say only 10% of users regularly go over 16GB of storage, but there's always the lower end version of the Galaxy S3 for that... but with HD movie downloads becoming far more prevalent, plus the influx of HD apps, we're thinking more space is an excellent idea.
But overall, in the hand, the Samsung Galaxy S3 feels superb. The design contours well against the palm, and while the screen size may be a little big for some (you'll need a bit of shuffling to reach the upper section of the screen) it's definitely useable in the hand.
So in short: if you don't mind a slightly lighter-feeling polycarbonate shell and you like big HD screens in your pocket, this is a phone definitely worth checking out.

Samsung I9000 Galaxy S
The strongest Android phone currently on the planet, Samsung I9000 Galaxy S, has hit the Indian shores. The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S has the biggest Super AMOLED screen in the market with a size of 4 inches. The Galaxy S is available in two versions, 8GB and 16GB. But I have only seen the 16GB in the Indian market (Kolkata).
The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S has a 4″ Super AMOLED capacitive screen with WVGA (800 x 480) resolution. As usual, a 3.5mm slot is present. The phone has a inbuilt memory of 8GB / 16GB, depending on the version you purchase. The external microSD slot is expandable up to 32GB. The Galaxy S has a healthy 512MB RAM and 2GB ROM.

The camera is the only weak point in Galaxy S along with the plastic build. The camera is of 5MP resolution with autofocus but no flash at all. The video is recorded at HD (720P) resolution at 30fps. A secondary camera for video chatting is also present with VGA resolution.
The Android version on Galaxy S is 2.1 (Eclair). The processor inside is one of the best in the market, ARM Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor with a clock speed of 1Ghz. The processor is based on 45nm fabrication process. Stereo FM Radio with RDS support is also present. GPS with aGPS and Digital Compass support is also present. The video player on Galaxy S supports codec like .avi, Divx, .mkv, which is excellent according to me.
The battery power is of 1500mAh Li-Po battery. The battery performance on Galaxy S is excellent, in fact second best after Samsung Wave. The Galaxy S is available in Black and Grey. The price of Samsung I9000 Galaxy S is INR 28500 (US $608).
