Apple launches iPhone6, Smartwatch; may hit India by Oct.

The long wait is over – Apple has taken the wraps off its new flagship smartphone.

After rumors and customer demand, Apple has finally given the people what they want: an iPhone 6 with a larger-than-4.5-inch screen. In fact, customers will have a choice of two phone to consider, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.

Both smartphones come with 'Retina HD' displays and ion- strengthened glass.
The iPhone 6 is 6.8mm thin and the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1mm thin.

The smartphones and the smartwatch were launched at the Flint Centre in Cupertino, California, where the iconic Macintosh was first launched 30 years ago.

The iPhone 6 will be priced at $199 (16GB), $299 (64GB) and $399 (128GB) with a two-year contract. The iPhone 6 Plus will be available for $299 (16GB), $399 (64GB) and $499 (128GB) with a two-year contract.

The new handsets will be available in the US, Canada, the UK and six other countries from September 19, while other countries will follow later. The devices can be pre-booked from September 12.

It may still take some time before the latest version of the iPhone makes it to India. Market analysts said the handsets are most likely to hit Indian shores either around Diwali in October end or in November like the previous launches in the country.

The current iPhone 5S is retailing in India at about Rs. 41,500 for the 16GB version.

Processor Speed & Other specifications :
  • Both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will run on Apple's A8 64 bit chip.
  • The new chip is 13% smaller than the A7. According to Schiller, this translates into 20% faster CPU and 50% faster graphics.
  • The new iPhones have the power button on the side. Apple has made 1.3 million apps available on their new smartphones.
  • While Apple claims that iPhone 6 Plus has 24 hours of 3G talk time, the iPhone 6 is said to have 14 hours of 3G talk time.
  • Both phones will also have a wi-fi calling facility,, which means that you can make and receive phone calls if you are in a wi-fi zone and are not on a phone network.
  • At 6.9 mm for the iPhone6 and 7.1 mm for the iPhone 6 Plus, these are the thinnest smartphones Apple has ever made, a point that Cook made quite early in his presentation. Thinner also means lighter, and perhaps this is a way to take on larger, clunkier Android-based smartphones.
  • iPhone users have long suffered the vagaries of a super-delicate screen that would shatter even on low-level impact. Apple is hoping to win that love back with what it claims is a shatter-proof sapphire crystal screen. The screen will also be largely smudge-proof and water resistant.
  • The older iPhones have also fallen behind in camera quality, with even lower-priced smartphones carrying much cameras of much higher quality. This time, the iPhone6 hopes to change that with an 8 MP iaSight camera and a new sensor.
  • Another sore point with earlier models, the new iPhone6 will run on a non-removable Li-Po1810 mAh battery that should give users extended use-time.
  • Both models come with the fastest chip Apple has ever used. The new processor chips are expected to both speed up computing as well as preserve energy. The second point is important, since many iPhone users often use energy-hungry apps. The new chip should help in conserving battery power, too.
  • Both iPhones come equipped with Retina HD display for a clearer view. The new phones will come in multiple resolution options, with the higher end iPhone6 Plus kicking in at 1080 pixels, but still falling short of the QuadHD level that some Android-based phablets pack.
